Welcome to Clonoulty Central NS, situated in the heart of Clonoulty village and nestled between the towns of Thurles and Cashel. calls-to-action

School doors reopened on Thursday 31st August after our relaxing summer break. We welcomed 14 new junior infants and 8 other students to the other classes up the school. A big Clonoulty N.S welcome to Scott, Eddie, Emily, Caitlin, Eric, Donnacadh, Evan, Jay, Mary-Orla, Alex, Layla-Rose, Abbie, Matthew and Dylan who started in Junior Infants. THey all look so smart and grown up in their new uniforms. Also welcome to Lorcan and Cathal to second class, and to Matas, Cory, Niamh, Robyn, Adam and Luke who joined fifth class. Our start of year school mass was held on Wednesday morning 20th September. We hope we will have a happy, healthy and productive year together.

  Schools Cross Country  3rd October

THe annual Dr Crokes School Cross Country was scheduled to take place on Wednesday 27th September but due to bad weather, was rescheduled for Tuesday 3rd October. Well done to Aoife Bourke, Andrea Quirke and Emma Ely who came first, second and fourth consecutively in their fifth and sixth class race – claiming gold for the team event for our school. Also well done to Jack Heffernan who came in third in his race for third and fourth class boys. Look in senior classes page to see more photos.

Farm Safety Talk 29th Sept 2017

On Friday 29th September, some visitors came to our school to speak about staying safe on the farm. A tractor was parked outside the school gate and all the children listened from inside the gate. We learned about how dangerous and powerful farm machinery and livestock can be. We also saw how difficult it can be for a farmer on a tractor to hear or see a person on the ground. Many thanks to Willie, Willie and Simon who gave us this talk and who left us all a token keyring and some high-viz vests before they left. Thanks also to FBD and Teagasc who sponsor these talks.

Miss Tobin’s Class September 2017

We had a busy month with our new junior infants settling in very well. We covered Autumn and Myself as our themes in Aistear . We collected autumn leaves and identified the trees from which they came, we baked cupcakes and decorated them like our faces, we role-played the family in the home corner, built lots of different types of homes using the aistear blocks, stickle blocks and large duplo bl0cks and created a book all about me.

On the last Friday of the month, we took part in a class treasure hunt as part of a class reward. This lots of fun and the treats we found were delicious. Welcome to our new SNA Ciara O Riordan and a big happy birthday to Charlie, Sophie, Grace and Eddie who all celebrated their birthdays this month.

School Tours 2017

Senior School Tour

Our Senior School Tour took place this year on Thursday 1st June. We left the school just as the birds were starting the morning chorus at 6:15 am and travelled up to Rosaveal, Co Galway where we boarded the 10 o clock ferry to Inismor. Though the forecast was poor, thankfully the raindrops remained at bay all day for the children to enjoy a picnicnear the beach, a cycle all around the island and a climb to the top of the famous Dun Aengus Fort. This was the first time many of our children had been outside of mainland Ireland and also been on a boat. We boarded the four o clock ferry and arrived back in Macdonalds in Galway for some well earned grub. A fantastic school tour – one that we will remember for a long time.

Junior School Tour

Our junior and senior infants this year travelled to Dreamland in Limerick for their school tour on Thursday 8th June. This is an amazing hand-crafted playground of imagination where the children role-played being firemen in the firestation, travellers going on holiday on an plane, shoppers in a supermarket, hairdressers in a salon, doctors in a surgery and best of all, princes and princesses in the beautiful castle. Special Guest Mickey Mouse came out to meet the children. The day was topped off with a trip to Macdonalds in Limerick before heading home. Look in Miss Tobin’s Class Page to see more photos of our day.

County Champions 2017!!!!

All roads let to Semple Stadium on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th May. Both our u.13 boys and u.11 girls qualified for county finals in their respective competitions. Decked in the green and gold of Clonoulty, a fine crowd supported the children on both days and to everybody’s delight, our teams claimed silverware on both occasions. Well done all and a special word of thanks to Miss Hennessy for her work with both teams.

These are the official match reports.

 U13 Roinn G-1 Hurling Clonoulty 5-08 Ballyporeen 2-06

As these two teams entered the field of play no one could have imagined the epic game that was to be played out. Two of the smaller schools that would play in Semple Stadium over the two day event, this game was to be one of the highest scoring and most thrilling games of the entire 2017 Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Hurling Finals. Keelan Ryan would draw first blood for Clonoulty and score in quick succession no less that 1-02 for his side to the delight of the supporters present. Cillian Hacket and Charlie English responded quick to the challenge laid down and scored 2-04 between them for Ballyporeen, heaping pressure on Clonoulty. Keelan Ryan showed the skill of the Clonoulty side however with a point from a free most senior intercounty players would struggle with. Ballyporeen was by no means about to roll over. Cillian Hackett notched up 0-02 in the second half that would keep Ballyporeen spirits high. Finbarr Ryan and Abbie Ryan broke through the Ballyporeen defence and put points over the bar to the delights of the Clonoulty supporters. After a hard fought battle the dust settled and it was to be Clonoulty who would claim the title for their side after some tremendous displays of hurling determination from both sides. A mention must go Richard Fercombe who controlled the last line of defence with a man of match performance.

Team:  Laura Egan, Richard Ferncombe,  Aoife Bourke, Keelan Ryan, Finbarr Ryan, Tomás Taylor, Abbie Ryan, Subs: Jack Ryan Maher, Andrea Quirke, Kyle O’Donnell, Daniel Murphy, Jack Wade.

Coach: Cora Hennessy.

 Camogie Clonoulty 2-11 Littleton 3-02

Team:  Sophie Maher,  Lyla Murphy,  Clodagh Ryan, Aoife Bourke, Andrea Quirke,  Rebecca Riordan,  Emma Ely. Subs: Lily Defoe, Aoife O Donoghue & Mia O Donnell.  Coach: Cora Hennessy.

This U11 E camogie decider was keenly contested from start to finish. Littleton were back in a county final for the first time in years and brought a ferocious work-rate and desire on the day. On this occasion however, they came up against a very hungry Clonoulty side who were just a little more clinical on the day. Ciara Shelly produced a performance that Littleton supporters are unlikely to forget in a hurry and her final tally of 3-02 was all the more impressive having amassed it against such a resolute Clonoulty defence. Former Tipperary camogie player Cora Hennessey had obviously put in the work on the training field with the Clonoulty girls and after entering the interval 7 points in front, it provided them with enough of a cushion to see the game out in the face of some serious pressure being exerted by a super Littleton side. ‘Player of the Match’ Aoife Bourke’s second half scores were instrumental in securing the title for a superb Clonoulty side.

Buddy Bench

Our playground has received the lovely addition of a Buddy Bench. This will be used as part of the Incredible Years Programme which promotes positive behaviour and relationships in school. It will be used as a focal point for meeting others in the playground. Many thanks to Christian Ely for his fantastic craftsmanship.

The Primary Game 2017

Congratulations to Abbie Ryan in sixth class who will represent the school in the upcoming primary game at half time in the Senior Hurling Championship Match between Tipperary and Cork on May 21st. This is a huge achievement for Abbie and the school and we are all very proud.

Spring Time in the Infant Class – March 2017

Spring has sprung in the infant classroom at Clonoulty NS. This year, our class participated in the Hatch 4 Schools programme based in Inagh Co Clare. Our eggs arrived in the incubator on the morning of Monday 20th March- seven eggs in total. Later that day, the hatching began and by Wednesday morning, seven little chicks had safely hatched out. Day by day we watched them get louder and stronger. They even enjoyed a ramble around the classroom while the children worked. We also had a visit from Benny the Lamb from Katie and Charlie’s Dad’s farm. New life is all around.

Operation Transformation Ten at Ten

As part of the nationwide Ten at Ten initiative initiated by RTE’s Operation Transformation, the children of Clonoulty N.S got them selves into gear to work up a sweat today. First, we warmed up with three laps of the school, then we stretched and did a quick aerobic session outside. We finished the session inside (as it was freezing ourside!) with a few choroegraphed dances. Whew! We hope to keep up lots of  physical activity in the coming months.

Grandparents Day February 1st

On the first morning of spring, we all gathered in the parish church for a special mass to celebrate our grandparents. It was wonderful to see so many grandparents present at this celebration. We also remembered those grandparents who could not make the mass or are no longer with us. The children of Clonoulty and Ballagh N.S provided lovely songs and music which greatly enriched the celebration. Afterwards, the children incited their grandparents back to the school for some refreshments. Many of the grandparents visited their grandchildren in their classrooms.

Christmas Carol Service Tuesday 20th December

Our Christmas carol service was held in the parish church on Tuesday night 20th December. All the children were in high spirits with just a couple of sleeps to Santa’s arrival and they were very proud to perform the Christmas songs they had practised so much in the lead up to this night. The sound of the children’s voices filled the church as they sang Winter Song, The Rhythm of Life and other beautiful christmas songs.

Liam Lawton Concert

On Wed night 14th December, a very successful fundraiser was held for the school. Performing in the parish church, up to 500 people gathered to see Liam Lawton perform a selection of his most beautiful Christmas songs. It was a very special night, especially in the lead up to Christmas. A great night was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to all those involved in this successful venture and special word of gratitude to Grainne Gribbon for whose talent and artisitic creativity added so much to the occasion.

Halloween 2016

Friday 28th October saw an invasion of witches, goblins, vampires and other eerie monsters in our school as the children entered the Halloween spirit with their magnificent costumes. Even some of the teachers looked a little off colour for Halloween! Lots of fun was had and well done to all on the imaginative dress. Wishing everyone a happy and safe midterm break. School reopens on Monday 7th November.

N.B – Christmas Shoeboxes to be returned to school by Thursday 10th of November.

Maths Week Oct 17th – Oct 21st

We marked National Maths Week in our school this week with a variety of activities.  All classes participated in a number of fun maths based activities. This helped us realise that maths is not merely confined to our text books but is all around us in our immediate environment and interactions with others. We organised maths trails, station teaching sessions and maths games to mark maths week in Clonoulty NS.

Following months of very hard work under the direction of Ms McGeachy, the children in Clonoulty N.S were very proud to learn that the school has been awarded its fifth green flag. This flag is awarded for efforts made towards improving biodiversity in the school environment. The Green Schools Committee are to be commended for their dedication and efforts throughout the year. Two children from the committee were selected to receive the Green Flag at the presentation in Kilkenny. Grace and Sophie were proud to accept the flag on behalf of the entire school community. Five green flags is a wonderful achievement. Special thanks to Ms McGeachy.

Proclamation Day at Clonoulty N.S 15th March 2016.

Tuesday 15th March was a very special day for the children and their families as they gathered together with members of the wider community to remember the events of Easter 1916 in celebrating Proclamation Day. Mr O Brien welcomed everybody and then invited the youngest and oldest child in the school – Tiernan and Mary, to assist him in raising the Irish flag. The children in the senior classes then spoke a little about each of the signatories of the original proclamation. We were then entertained  by Emily, Ella, Finbarr and Andrea who sang and played A Nation Once Again.  Children from first class up then performed a selection of traditional Irish tunes on tin whistle. Junior and senior infants then gave a rousing performance of Ireland’s Call. This was followed by each class reading out their own Proclamations for a New Generation. The ceremony finished with song and drama as the seniors performed the final part of their Christmas show – Easter 1916.  Thankfully, the sun shone gallantly on what was a memorable day.
